Ktaka Law Minister quits, CM rejects resignation

Bangalore: Karnataka Law Minister Suresh Kumar has resigned over allegedly owning a Bangalore residential site in violation of rules. Suresh Kumar has sent his resignation letter to Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda.

However, Gowda refused to accept his resignation saying, "Suresh Kumar is one of those ministers who conduct themselves in a transparent manner. Suresh Kumar has told me that he'll take back his post only after his name is cleared, but I think that this is unnecessary as I know the details of this case and I think he's being wrongly targeted. So I will not accept his resignation and there is no need to order for a probe."

Suresh Kumar has also offered to return the site and has admitted to his error of judgement.

Karnataka Law Minister Suresh Kumar has offered to return the site and has admitted to his error of judgement.

This comes after Suresh Kumar was accused by an RTI applicant for obtaining a G category site in violation of rules. Suresh Kumar has been accused of getting a 4000 sq ft site from the chief minister's quota by suppressing the fact that his mother and daughter owned two sites and a house in Bangalore. In his defence, Suresh Kumar said that the two sites were in Nelamangala outside Bangalore and the house was taken away by the corporation for a road widening project.

The law says that you cannot get a G category site if you already own a site in Bangalore.

Till now, Suresh Kumar was one of the few ministers not to have been named in any scams in the scam-ridden Karnataka government.
